Contraction Hunt

This week we have been reading a book called 'Keep Trying'.  In the book there are some contractions. eg I am  - I'm
                          Can not - can't

Mrs Grant gave Team 8 a contraction hunt challenge.
Team 8 had lots of fun searching and hunting on the walls and in books to find contractions!

Pretty clever contraction hunting.

Mood Monster Brainstom

After Mrs Turner had introduced us to the Mood monsters, feelings and mindfulness, Team 8 talked about the way our body feels when we are angry, sad, nervous, lonely and friustrated.
We then got together in groups and brainstormed what we can do to get ourselves back to a clam or happy state.

Here we are working as a team and our collaborative ideas.

Mindfulness and Oral Language

Over the past few weeks, Team 8 have been learning about our feelings and how they make our body and mind feel.
When we feel excited our heart is beating really fast and our muscles are tight. When we are sad, we sometimes cry and want to be alone. When we are happy, our heart is doing back-flips and our muscles are relaxed. If we are angry, our muscles are tight and we might want to hurt people.
We have some "Mood Monsters" that are going to hang out on our walls to help us remember about our feelings.

On Thursday, Mrs Grant got us talking about our feelings. We had to say sentences such as "I feel happy when..., I feel sad when..., I feel excited when..., I felt scared when..." We even wrote a sentence about it.

On Friday, Mrs Turner got us talking about those feelings AGAIN! This time though, we had some leaders that helped us to share our feelings onto PuppetPals. We are now ALL experts and can help you, or any other class (now there is a challenge for the rest of Sunnyhills!) create your very own 'feelings' movie on Puppet Pals.

I have attached all the movies below (Michelle, Synthia and Indi, I am so sorry I couldn't find yours - you can help me next week and I will pop it up for you). Please note that I have left their creations in their original form. I love how you can almost hear the thought processes in some of their heads. I especially love how collaborative EVERYONE was AND how many leaders emerged taking charge and keeping everyone on task.

Please have a look and listen. We would love to hear your thoughts about them. Our learning intention was to speak CLEARLY and CONFIDENTLY about a feeling we have had.

How did we do?

The Friendship Seat

We have new friendship seats at school!

They have been beautifully painted by some senior children.
Team 8 went and had a look at them today and they are amazing!
If Team 8 see someone sitting on them, we are going to be great friends and ask them if they are ok and if they would like to play. Also if one of Team 8 can't find their friends they are going to go sit there and fingers crossed someone will help them.

Here we are sitting and looking at the seats.

Pretty cool seats!

More of Team 8's Special Treasures

In Team 8 we have been sharing our special treasures. Last week Benjamin, Samuel and Theo shared their special treasures.

Benjamin shared his little men. One of his friends gave one to him and then his mum bought him one. They are pretty cool as their heads lift up.
Theo shared his special motorbike. He showed us how it goes fast.
Samuel and his Dad are Warriors fans. A friend of Samuel's family gave him a cool bag that had a Warriors ball in it too.  (Watch out Samuel Mrs Turner is a huge Warriors fan!)

Thank you to all the parents that have let their children bring in their special treasures to share... we are still waiting for Mrs Driver's special Treasure!

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Happy Chinese New Year Everyone!
We hope you're having a fantastic one!

On Friday Team 8 was lucky enough to have Jeremy's parents share with us some of the traditions they celebrate in their family during this special time. First they showed us a powerpoint and talked about the special things they do.

Team 8. Can you remember any of the things Chinese people like to do on New Years Eve or New Years day? (comment below with the things you can remember to move your peg!)

After that, Yvonne (Jeremy's Mummy) surprised us with some traditional Chinese food! Most of us gave it a try. Mrs Turner thought it was delicious. Mmmmmmmmmm! Thank you Yvonne!

Mrs Turner (on the behalf of Mrs Grant and herself) also gave out some red envelopes to wish everyone health, wealth and happiness for the New Year.

A very special thanks to Yvonne and Austin for the powerpoint and food, and also to Bingqing (Paul's Mummy) for supporting and helping make this day happen! Team 8 is very lucky to have parents like you as part of our learning community.

Kia ora rawa atu! x

Talking

Hi everyone,
In Team 8 over the next few weeks, we are going to focus on our Oral Language skills. We will be learning how to speak clearly, with expression, to share information about ourselves. We are using the information we collected for our Pepeha.

Mrs Turner has been teaching some children how to use Puppet Pals on the iPad. We only know a little part of the puzzle and have to work together to piece it all together.

Yesterday, Mason and Zoe learned the first piece of the puzzle and Josephine and Samuel learned the second part. This is Josephine's test.

Not bad for a first attempt we think!

Can you please leave her some feedback? we'd love to hear what you liked and what you think she could improve on.

We'll keep you posted.... hopefully everyone in Team 8 will be able to create their own Puppet Pals video.

The Ball Hunt

This morning, Team 8 went to the Koru courtyard to get some balls for fitness. When we got there, there wasn't enough balls! boo hoo :-(

We cried! (not really) but we were a little upset so we went on a ball hunt. We found 1x ball and 1x banana!

Some of us wrote stories about what we think happened to all the balls. We were very creative!

After lunch, we decided to go on another ball hunt. This time we found SOOOOOOOO many balls!!!! Lucky for Sunnyhills School that we returned them to where they are supposed to go.

You're welcome everyone!
Love from Team 8!
