Everyday Heroes Lauren and Ora

Yesterday Team 8 (and the Koru Whanau) had a visit from Lauren and her guide dog puppy Ora. She talked to us about all the special things Guide Dog NZ do.

We came to realise that guide dogs really are our everyday heroes.
We learned:

  • Guide dog puppies can't play with balls - Dia
  • Guide dogs can go to different places - Alex
  • If they have a red coat on their back, they can go anywhere - Indi W
  • They can go on the aeroplane - Wyatt
  • They can't go to the zoo - Gabriella
  • They help people to know where they are going - Zoey A
  • Ora had a identification (ID) card - Jeremy
  • If somebody is blind, Ora can help them to walk on the road - Theo
  • They can't scratch the window - Ben

Thank you to everyone who sent in a donation for this fantastic cause. We will be forwarding the money to the foundation.

We are firefighters drama

Today Team 8 pretended there was a fire at our school.
We did some role play/drama to show this happening.
Two people were the school, ringing for the fire service and two people were the Fire fighters.
Here are Theo, Cameron, Synthia and Michelle showing their great acting. ( I think the camera person needs a bit of training...It was me!)

Just for fun!

On Friday morning Team 8 made some play-dough.
We all had a turn at adding ingredients and squishing them through our fingers to make a dough. The sensory fun was at it's best when we had to squish in the food colouring in to make different colours.

Here we are making the play-dough...

After making the play-dough, we used it to sculpt our "everyday heroes".
There are fire fighters, police officers, guide dogs, life guards, Mums and Dads too. Have a look at some of our creations, can you see the likeness?

A special thanks to our wonderful 'mummy help', Hope.
Couldn't have done it without you! :-)

Making a Current in the Water

Last week Team 8 and Team 10 talked about being safe in a water current.
We first made a current in the water. (A giant whirlpool)
The we had to try and float ... It was tricky to make the whirlpool, but gosh it was fun!
Here we are making the whirlpool.

Such fun!

Pattern Hunt

This morning, Team 8 went on a pattern hunt around Sunnyhills School. We found HEAPS of repeating patterns. We went in groups with the Ipads. We took pictures of repeating patterns.

After that Mrs Turner taught us how to use Pic Collage to put our patterns in a shape. Here are our pictures...

Josephine, Dia, Andy, Theo and Sam made these collages...

Ben, Jeremy, Paul, Cecilia, and Indigo took these ones...

Zoe S, Cameron, Mason, Michelle and Leona made these ones...

Wyatt, Zoey A, Alex, Synthia and Gabriella created these...

How do you think we did?

  • Find some patterns at home, or out and about over the weekend.
  • Ask Mummy or Daddy nicely if you can borrow their phone to take pictures.
  • Add them to the free "Pic Collage" app and email them to Mrs Turner: there may be a reward!

Please leave us a comment so we can move up our pegs! :-)
